Mentre noi assaporiamo la prima grande nevicata dell’anno sotto un cielo limpido, oggi in Giappone è tempo del famoso Sapporo Snow Festival o Yuki Matsuri.
Si tratta di un grande evento annuale, impedibile per gli amanti della neve, giunto alla sua 64° edizione e che quest’anno si sta svolgendo dal 5 all’ 11 Febbraio nella grande città dell’isola di Hokkaido.
Dalle foto e dai video in rete, Sapporo sembra essere diventata magicamente un museo di cristallo con sculture e architetture di neve e ghiaccio.
Il festival si snoda in tre zone rappresentative della città: Odori Park, Susukino e Tsudome (nei pressi del Sapporo Community Dome).
A Odori Park, un lungo parco/boulevard nel cuore di Sapporo, si possono ammirare sculture sia di neve che di ghiaccio e partecipare a vari eventi. Per il momento, noi possiamo solo sognare ad occhi aperti e dare un’occhiata a questo lunghissimo parco grazie alle telecamere della torre televisiva di Sapporo.
A Susukino ci sono prevalentemente sculture intagliate nel ghiaccio, vi si svolge una competizione internazionale di sculture e una concorso di bellezza per eleggere la Ice Queen, mentre Tsudome è una zona interamente dedicata alle famiglie, dove grandi e piccini posso divertirsi con la neve!
Questo festival è nato nel 1950, quando un gruppo si studenti realizzò sei statue di neve nel parco Odori per rialzare il morale dei cittadini nel dopoguerra; nel 1955 le Forze Armate Giapponesi collaborarono all’iniziativa e l’evento acquisì l’importanza che ha ora.
Il successo fu incredibile, tanto che nel 1974 venne introdotta la competizione internazionale di sculture di ghiaccio che porta in Sapporo, insieme ai turisti, team di artisti stranieri esperti nell’arte magica dell’intaglio.

While we are enjoying the first big snowfall of the year under a clear sky, today in Japan it’s time for the famous Sapporo Snow Festival or Yuki Matsuri.
This is a great annual event, a real must for snow lovers, this year it's being held from February 5th to 11th in the big city on the island of Hokkaido and it’s in its 64th edition.
From photos and videos on the net, Sapporo magically seems to have become a museum of crystal sculptures and architectures.
The festival runs in three representative areas of Sapporo: Odori Park, Susukino and Tsudome (near the Sapporo Community Dome).
In Odori Park, a long park/boulevard in the heart of Sapporo, people can admire both snow and ice sculptures and take part to various events. For the moment, we can only dream and look at this long park thanks to the cameras of the Sapporo TV tower.
In Susukino there are mainly sculptures carved in the ice, there is held an international competition of sculptures and a Ice Queen beauty contest, while Tsudome is an area dedicated to families where children and adults can have fun in the snow!
This festival was born in 1950, when a group of students created six snow statues in the Odori Park to raise the morale of the citizens after the war, in 1955 the Japanese Self Defence Forces participate in the initiative and the event gained the importance which has now. The success was incredible, so much so that in 1974 an international competition of ice sculptures was introduced, it brings in Sapporo, along with tourists, foreign artists teams who are expert in the "magic" art of carving.
